What does Guru mean? GU means darkness, and RU means light. Guru means one who dispels darkness and shows the disciple the path of light. A Guru is a light in our world, and leads a disciple to wisdom and self realization, imparts knowledge and guides, inspires and transmutes their spiritual powers to the disciple. The Guru is the one who leads the disciple to God, becoming a link that connects man to God.
A Guru is an embodiment of God on earth; the guidance of a Guru is considered essential in reaching moksha, spiritual upliftment or liberation. Saints and Gurus are guides of mankind. They show the path which takes us beyond all kind of pain, sorrows, spiritual consciousness, infinite bliss and take us up towards realization with eternal union with Divinity, removing and destroying the bad effects of karma in the process. The relationship between a Guru and disciple is a beautiful one. A disciple's life is a Guru's life and a Guru's life is a disciple's life. A disciple should always believe and trust their Guru. A Guru gives the disciple a mantra as one of many ways necessary for enlightenment and can transform the disciple by look, touch or thought. A disciple under the guidance of a Guru can establish God consciousness where the disciple can overcome all negative virtues and evolve into a Divine being and the ignorance will disappear and the light of wisdom start shining upon them. The Divine memory has to be awakened as it has forgotten its real purpose due to the earthly connection of body and mind. When the disciple has cleansed his heart, God sends him his Guru. Poornima is full moon. On the Guru Poornima day, the grace, energies and spiritual power of the guru flows in abundance towards the disciple. Do not keep changing Gurus. Listen to all but follow one. A true Guru is chosen from God, through Him God teaches the disciples so that they will realize their real self. A real Guru is one who makes sure that you reach where you are supposed to reach and is the first one to be happy when you have reached your destiny. A real Guru shares their real life experience and gives everything that they have learned and experienced without holding back anything selfishly. Happy Guru Poornima Day. May all of you blessed by all the Guru's and all your sadhana will be blessed and fulfilled. Blessings from Amma & Swamiji |
