Sri Maha Pratyangira Devi

How many aspects are there to God? Given the fact that God is infinite, there might understandably be many. pratyangira-blue
Religious teachers and spiritual seekers throughout time have tried to convey their inward experience of God's many holy aspects with familiar comparisons. Many encountered the Divine energy representing as female and motherly, giving way to descriptions of the Divine Mother. But going deeper still, we find that there are many different aspects to that Divine Mother energy as well.

The more we go within to experience the Divine, the more familiar we become with these energies. It's a little bit like the Eskimos who are said to have 200 different words for snow. This is because they see a lot of snow. And while it is all still snow, in different climates and conditions, snow has different properties, and is experienced differently. Likewise, God has so many different names because there is so much of God to experience.  Sri Maha Pratyangira Devi, a deep and powerful aspect of the Divine Mother, presents as a Goddess with a male lion head and a female body. Her energy is a balance between the masculine and the feminine Shiva/Shakti. This energy has been recognized in a few other traditions from ancient Egypt to Tibet. Pratyangira Devi is the embodiment of Dharma (righteousness), Satya (truth) and impeccable justice.  This aspect devours the negative karmas and answers prayers swiftly for a sadhaka or devotee that holds pure intentions and is walking the path of Dharma. She fills her cup with a person's unwanted or negative energy and transforms that energy, purifying it.  Through Her grace, a faithful devotee becomes a pure refined soul.

SwamiTo best receive the Pratyangira energy, it's helpful to have some understanding of it. Pratyangira comes from a deep, deep place within the Divine Mother; an area simply known as the Void. In the Void there are no thoughts of fear, or pain, or loss, or want, or time, or even space… just the warmth of the Mother's love.

This Mother teaches us by removing fear and pain from our lives.  She shows us that these circumstances are caused by our attachments to certain aspects of our lives.  A refusal to let go is refusing to release the the attachment which causes our pain.  If there is pain or fear there is something to be released something to be learned, and this is only possible through Her grace and meditative contemplation. Once there is release there is Void. Experience of this Void for the first time is like a journey home.  There has always been this comfort, there has always been this Mother.  She has been patiently and gracefully waiting to reveal herself, with her heart ready to receive us, for lifetimes, for aeons.  It is our choice to take hold of her hand, She has been waiting to embrace us.  Mother Pratyangira gives totally and fully She is an ocean of grace.  She is also called Attravana Bhadrakali, bhadra meaning auspiciousness.  She asks of us only our devotion, and in return she gives infinitely, revealing to us our true nature.  Wherever there is sincere devotion, truth and Dharma practiced by a sadhaka (spiritual seeker), Mother Pratyangira will reveal Herself.  This is the Mother of Moksha, liberation -- She frees devotees of their samskaras, the cycle of life, death and rebirth.

In 1997 Sri Maha Pratyangira revealed herself to Swami and Amma.  She blessed them with a pure open-eye darshan. They observed her energetic expression, speak about her with great bhakti (devotion).  She showed herself with 1008 heads spreading in all four directions.  Her laughter was of pure ksham (pure bliss), and it shot out like sparks or pratyangirafireworks that rained onto Swamiji and Amma.  Each of her 2016 hands carried weapons, representing all of the qualities that our soul should carry.  Seated on a chariot pulled by four lions, it was revealed that the lions represented the crucial importance of four in seeking our liberation.  The lions represent: the four yugas; stages of one’s life- baby, child, adult, elder; the stages on the path to enlightenment - Dharma, Artha, Kama, Moksha; the stages of spiritual evolution - Siriyai, Kriyai, Yogam, Gnanam; and honored the four divine presences – Mata, Pita, Guru, Deivem (Mother, Father, Guru, God). Beneath this chariot was an eight petal lotus, revealing the path to becoming free from life and birth is the Eight Fold Path. This experience was a Maha Vishwaroopa darshan of the mother – she showed Herself in full form. Swami and Amma, in tears, had a great awakening with the realization that all of us are this Mother.  This divine expression of Mother is within all of us and it is Swami and Amma's mission to awaken this consciousness. We are Divine, each soul carries these qualities and it is only in ignorance that we recognize each other as the human form.   They asked Ambaa Pratyangira a prayer to be One with her, to be liberated, to never again take a yoni birth.  With all of Her grace she granted this boon. Sri Maha Pratyangira Devi has merged fully with Swamiji and Amma.  She is their Guru, She is their Breath.

The Pratyangira aspect has been a bit of a secret for most of the past ages. She is the Mother of Moksha--of liberation and a giver of boons.  The greatest of all these boons is Salvation.  Many believed that a direct experience with her was reserved only for Saints and Rishis. Seeing Pratyangira in any form is considered an enormous blessing, and an indication that you were chosen by the Mother.  Pratyangira Devi will not hesitate to push even Her closest devotees back to Dharma, to practice justice.  She seeks devotees with pure devotion and only then chooses to reveal Herself to a sadhaka.  It's been said to take countless lifetimes for a soul to reach such consciousness. Amma and Swami desire only to serve at this Mother’s lotus feet.

AmmaSri Maha Pratyangira Devi is all powerful and secretly protects devotees and others. She is always by the side of Her devotees. She is within each and every being in all planes of existence, and is there to be awakened within.

Mata Pratyangira is said to emerge when there is much to be brought into balance. Because of what we're encountering in this current age, it is written that Her energy will be here to help creation at this time.
